Weed enthusiasts across South Africa were delighted by the news in
2018 that they could legally grow their own weed at home, for personal
use.
Now enOrmus Bud and Stark Ayres have launched South Africa’s first competition to
grow the largest marijuana plant, offering a R1 000 cash prize for the
best bushmastery. At the same time, Cape Town based Starke Ayres Garden
Centres, in conjunction with Transformus – suppliers of bio-active cell
food, enOrmous Bud – have produced South Africa’s first complete
home-growing kit.
Starke Ayres, one of the largest seed suppliers in Africa, is known for its innovation in agriculture and gardening, and pioneering trends to meet customer demand. They receive many enquiries daily from customers wanting to know how to grow their own cannabis, and are now supplying a comprehensive solution.
As part of this launch promotion, Stark Ayres in Rosebank, Cape Town, and enOrmus Bud are offering a free ‘How To Grow your Bush Outdoor’ guide, along with every bottle of enOrmus Bud purchased, while stocks last.
Charl Pienaar, founder of enOrmus Bud, is a biodynamic agriculture specialist who holds a masters degree in agriculture and is passionate about the potential to heal the earth and symbiotically grow healthy, nutrient dense and vibrant plants. His mission is to help others grow vigorous, nutritious and wholesome plants without the use of harmful chemicals.
“EnOrmus Bud is not a fertiliser in the chemical sense, but it is the primary mechanism that feeds the microbes that synergistically feed the plants,” he said. “It is a broad spectrum mineral complex that includes fulvic and humic acids and natural plant hormones.”
Pienaar said many scientific disciplines were waking up to the importance of microbes for our wellbeing, and that of our beautiful blue planet. “Healthy microbiomes provide the ability for ecosystems to be adaptable, resilient and healthy – whether they are in our bodies or soils,” he said.
“Ormus (the alchemical extract in enOrmus Bud) provides these microbes with high vibrating, potent and broad spectrum minerals. This enables the optimum supply of minerals to the plants. There is a famous quote that says a plant grows to the lowest available input. Sometimes a tiny trace element is missing, which stunts plant growth and is not found in regular fertilisers, which Ormus provides.
As it contains no harmful or artificial chemicals, it is really beneficial for the soil and the diverse multitude of life that exists there,” he added.
Pete Searll, managing director at TransfOrmus, said legalising marijuana “touches on our ability as adults to make choices for our own lives that we have been denied for so long. Freedom to engage with the natural healing plant world should not rest with government but rather is a matter of adult sovereignty,” he said.
“Take hemp for example, a cousin of the cannabis plant that has no psychoactive properties. This is one of the best sources for fibre, medicine, paper, clothing, building, nutrition and many other uses that could reduce plastics and other synthetic industrial products that are more expensive more damaging to the Earth. That hemp is still illegal in this country is utterly ridiculous!”

Best Bud Growing Tips
He offered the following tips to growers looking to cultivate the best bud:
- Plan your grow from the start – your plant has distinct growth stages and each requires different things (water, sun food etc) – and always loving attention!
- Our three special soils are designed for the needs of your plant at each stage, along with enOrmus Bud application.
- Using chlorine free water will provide better quality plants.
- Remove the males at pre-flowering stage (if you see banana-like sacks it’s a male). If you don’t discard these, these fertilise the females and bud growth is severely hampered.
