The Challenges to Effective Marijuana Rehab and Treatment in UT

More and more health experts, interest groups, and legislators all over the world are slowly opening up to the idea of reclassifying marijuana as an essential therapeutic modality for certain types of diseases especially those that have something to do with severe and intractable pain.
Unfortunately, until such time that the rest of the world has fully acquiesced to the idea of medical cannabis, there will always be individuals who take marijuana not for medical purposes but for other reasons. And this is one of the many challenges that are facing marijuana rehab and treatment in UT.
Treating marijuana addiction is more like treating any other kind of substance addiction. It begins with a detoxification process that, depending on the severity of the resulting withdrawal symptoms, may require medical management, nutritional assistance, or even a more holistic approach to management such as a social model of detox.

However, because one of the inherent dangers of an acute marijuana adverse reaction is increased sympathetic nervous stimulation, this can lead to abnormally elevated body temperatures, blood pressure, and heart rate. These can lead to significant reductions in tissue oxygenation. If not managed properly, then the person may go into a hypertensive crisis which he may no longer wake up. This is one of the critical challenges to effective marijuana rehab and treatment.
Another cause of concern is the fact that chronic marijuana use in quantities that are described to be well beyond its therapeutic benefits can lead to the development of psychiatric symptoms such as delusions, paranoia, and auditory and visual hallucinations. Chronic marijuana users and addicts have been shown to exhibit severe psychotic manifestations that marijuana rehab and treatment centers are posed with the challenge of meeting the psychiatric mental health needs of these individuals.

This is one of the reasons why an effective marijuana rehab and treatment center should always have the programs, capacity, and resources for the management of a dual diagnosis especially if it involves mental health problems such as borderline personality disorders, antisocial personality disorders, paranoid personality disorders, delusional disorders, and even paranoid and undifferentiated schizophrenia.
Since majority of individuals with severe marijuana addiction already have distorted perception of reality, they tend to think that they don’t have any problems at all. And this is another challenge to effective marijuana rehab and treatment as this can severely undermine efforts at rehabilitation.

In order for treatment and rehab to really work, the individual must have an open mind and an accepting attitude about the importance of treatment. This can only be established if they trust their caregivers. As such, therapists and counselors spend a long time winning the trust and confidence of individuals. It is not easy to win the trust of an addict.
There are other challenges to marijuana rehab and treatment. Nevertheless, the best treatment facilities always try their best to provide equally effective services to help individuals recover from marijuana addiction. More importantly, these treatment and rehabilitation facilities provide the best chance for marijuana addiction recovery.
