Crime facts in the USA (Infographic)

Clarissa Wilson

Do you know that 1 in every 31 adults in the USA has been convicted of some form of a felony?

The jails are cracking with imprisoned individuals. Only from 1980 to 2008 the number has risen from 5 hundred thousand to 2.5 million people – and that’s four times more.

The weird thing is Americans comprise five percent of the world population, yet it can be proud with 25% of the world criminals.

Rumor has it, it has to do with a racial background as well: one in six African American males had been detained by 2001. Is it racism, or are they just easier to suspect?

It has to do with sex as well – for comparison one in every 100 African American Females has been jailed. The Caucasian have their share in guilty pleasures – 14 million of them have been caught using an illegal drug while recreating.

They excel in numbers the black people who indulge in drugs – but it could be a matter of standard.

What is the most common felony? It’s rape – it has to do with our sexual identities and sexual health and there are over 100 thousands of rape cases only in the USA – think about it! Again we are the leading civilized country to report such number of rape cases.

We live in a big and great country and we have the largest prisoner population in the world. We have 1 million members of criminal gangs, responsible for the 80 percent of crime.

Moreover – Americans stars have been in jail too. Most of them have undergone some drug problems, which resulted in their confinement for months and rehab.

Frank Sinatra, for example, was investigated thoroughly by the police because he was suspected of connections with organized criminals.

Ozzy Osbourne has been actually arrested for burglary – he stole items worth $ 25 and was sentenced to 3 months.

Mattew MacConaghey was caught by the police naked, dancing around a room and playing while another person was sitting and clapping along.

Paul McCartney was arrested at an airport for trying to move about with some marijuana. That’s not all!

Those who suffer from crime are even more than the criminals themselves: one out of every 5 people in the USA is a victim of a crime – and that’s the highest rate there is.
