As marijuana becomes legal in more and more places, there are also
plenty of people trying cannabis for the first time. And it seems the elderly are really enjoying it.
Marijuana use among older adults is hitting all time highs in the United States. According to new data,
around nine percent of people ages 50 to 64 have used cannabis at least
once in the past year, and three percent of people 65 and older have
done so. To put that in perspective, that's more than double the number
of people aged 50 to 64 who used cannabis 10 years ago, and it's seven
times more 65 and older people using marijuana compared to a decade ago.
Experts behind the new survey note that this isn't a case of old people picking up a bong
for the first time. They noted that 55 percent of middle-aged and 22
percent of older Americans have used marijuana at least once in their
life. So it seems that just a larger percentage of them have continued
to do so as they aged.
It will be interesting to see how many people from today's current
younger generations continue using marijuana in their older ages,
although it will probably be fully legal by then so it could be a
massive number.
