ANCHORAGE, (KTUU) -
At Alaskan leaf, an Anchorage marijuana dispensary, the assistant
manager said the business takes every precaution to prevent anyone
underage from walking in.
Some of the ways it takes precautions, checking the ID’s of every person who comes in, and no one is allowed past the air-lock room without valid identification.
The Department of Health said that parents play a role as well.
"Kids have questions about marijuana, they're not only seeing it in school but also in our communities," says Eliza Muse, a marijuana education program manager, "Your kid may approach or encounter marijuana for the first time, whether it's at a sleepover or a party. And to really talk about the ways can say no and still be cool."
According to the Department of Health and Social Services in 2017, Alaska students reporting marijuana use in the past month was at about 22 percent. That's up 2 percent from 2013.
While laws and regulations are in place to prevent drugs from ending up in the hands of people underage, parents can do their part as well.
