Newton residents who want to know more about marijuana can
attend a public session this month with experts about the health effects
of use.
“Wondering about Weed? Myths, facts and Marijuana in Newton” will cover the “myths and facts” about marijuana science, as well as the health risks and benefits of the drug, according to an announcement on the city’s website.
It will also focus on pot’s effect on adolescents and the developing brain, as well as medical marijuana use and recreational use by adults, the statement said.
The event will feature Dr. Kevin Hill, an addiction psychiatrist, cannabis researcher, and author at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital; Dr. Nicole Danforth, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital; and Dr. Elizabeth Booma, who is also with Newton-Wellesley Hospital, the statement said.
“Whether you’re an adult considering giving legal marijuana a try, a
parent worried about preventing teen use, or just plain curious, this is

The event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst inside the campus center at 777 Dedham St. The event is free and open to the public, according to the statement.
