Smoking Marijuana for Unique Purposes

Marijuana is debatable when it comes to smoking it for unique purposes. Everyone has an opinion on the issue. Nearly half the states in America have legalized marijuana for medical purposes due to the proven health benefits that it can provide. Since 10,000 years ago when marijuana was first known, there has not been one single death from it. That is an amazing fact to grasp considering that people overdose on prescription drugs every day.

The health benefits that someone can get from smoking marijuana are incredible. To see how one plant can treat so many diseases or disorders without the possibility of it becoming habit-forming or the chance of an overdose seems unreal in today’s society. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) can help prevent protein clumps that can inhibit memory in Alzheimer’s disease according to the Scripps Research Institution in California. At the Virginia Commonwealth University, they have studies to show that it can help control the spontaneous seizures in epilepsy.

Studies have shown that most of the Multiple Sclerosis patients that have used it have reported that marijuana helps them cope with the pain in their limbs. Other studies have shown marijuana to be an effective treatment for those with glaucoma. It helps relieve the pressure that causes optic nerve damage. Since it has been proven to help with pain conditions, it has also has the possibility to help patients with arthritis because it reduces inflammation and helps aid sleep.

People with depression that smoke marijuana have shown lower levels of depressive symptoms than those who do not smoke. Harvard Mental Health said it may help calm the nerves of people who suffer from anxiety. Some people with anxiety may prefer smoking marijuana over prescription drugs. Nearly 3 million Americans contract Hepatitis C each year and need therapy. The therapy comes with severe side effects including depression, nausea, the feeling of being tired all the time, and a loss of appetite. Smoking has helped these patients overcome the side effects and completed therapy.

The FDA and American Cancer Society have said that the cannabinoids in marijuana have antibacterial properties that inhibit tumor growth. These compounds relieve nausea and increase the appetite with cancer and AIDS. They also enlarge the airways that they believe may also relieve severe asthma attacks.
Smoking marijuana for spiritual purposes is unique but not enough to make it legal for someone to smoke it. In Taoism, they used to burn it during meditations.

They claimed that it helped heighten their spiritual awareness. Christians a long time ago used to use it in anointing oils which would absorb through their skin. They claimed it helped with skin conditions and menstrual symptoms. Sufi monks told a story of the marijuana leaves having an effect on the moods. Once, a monk was depressed and found the marijuana plant and when he ate the leaves found himself to be happy again. Hindus smoke it and believe that marijuana is a gift from Shiva and it is known to them as the holiest of plants.

Although smoking marijuana has not caused any harm and it is used for many unique purposes, it is still mind altering. THC interferes with the neurotransmitters in the brain. These are needed to carry information between the neurons or brain cells. Some side effects that come with smoking are increased appetite, fatigue, happiness, and sometimes dizziness. Many people are advocates for the legalization of marijuana, but it is also understandable that some people do not want it to be legal. If marijuana becomes legal, there will be some people who smoke it for recreation, and the only bad thing about that is some people will be irresponsible users in which it can become a problem. If someone is going to be a user, they should be a responsible user.
